How to Create a Flag Effect with Text in Adobe Illustrator Tutorial

April 22, 2020

Dubtronic font (free download) - https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/dubtronic

This tutorial covers how to create a flag effect inside Illustrator using a mix of shapes and text. One of the key things that makes this effect look cohesive is grouping the rectangle that makes the shape of the flag and the text together. Doing so applies the effect evenly to both, leading to great looking results.

A cool bonus to this workflow is that this works awesome for all sorts of different warp effects inside Illustrator. These sorts of effects are perfect for creating other looks like banners as well!

TLDR - Edit > Preferences > General > Use Legacy Free Transform :)

This tutorial goes over how to bring back the legacy behavior in Photoshop where you had to hold shift to scale proportionally. For whatever reason Adobe decided to change this behavior in a somewhat recent update to the tool, and if you're a long time Photoshop user to me, it's pretty hard to break old habits which makes that change frustrating.

Luckily changing the behavior back to needing to hold shift in order to scale proportionally inside Photoshop is quite easy to do! Hope this is helpful.

This tutorial goes over how to quickly and easily make text out of images inside Adobe Photoshop! This video will cover bringing in an image and setting up the text that you want to create the effect on. From that point it will show you how to turn your text into an image that you can then manipulate using either hue/saturation or color balance to help the text stand out even more. There is also some slight info on how to add an outer glow to further help your text "pop" if the effect is desired on your particular image. I think the end result is particularly cool when used on something like a sci-fi movie poster or other projects where abstraction can have a powerful impact. Hopefully you find this Photoshop tutorial helpful!

How to Simplify Paths by Reducing Points in Adobe Illustrator Tutorial

January 5, 2020

This Adobe Illustrator tutorial goes over how you can simplify the amount of points that are used in the paths for your objects & illustrations inside the program! I cover both the simple way of accomplishing this, and also more advanced options if you want even more control over how your object is simplified.

Simplifying the paths on objects is often most important when you're dealing with very complex images that can have thousands of points, which can lead to Illustrator crashing or running more slowly than is ideal. Simple is often good, but I also show what can happen if you over simplify and lose some of the fidelity of your image. Have any questions about what you've seen in the video?
