This Photoshop tutorial is a huge time saver because it shows you how you can easily and automatically save several different images from a single Photoshop file.

This tool to do this is called Generate Image Assets. It's easy to use and built into Photoshop!

This is super useful for creating a multitude of differently sized assets with a single common background image for something like an online ad campaign. This method allows you to save your files out as .jpg .png and .gif which makes it primarily awesome for web uses.

This tutorial covers how to make the popular "speed line" effect inside Adobe Illustrator. This video covers both how to actually crate the lines in a seamless way that blends well with the text or illustration you add them too, and also covers some basics over how to create them in a way that looks good.

Overall the process is fairly straightforward once you have the basics of creating the lines down, and the end result leaves a lot of room to style them to your personal preference. Plus going through this tutorial you'll hopefully learn some other cool tips and tricks to help with your workflow as an added bonus.

Any questions? Feel free to leave them in the comments section - and leave in any images that you've created using this method as well!

This tutorial covers a brand new feature in Adobe Photoshop CC 2015.5 and it's a pretty awesome time saver!

The Match Font feature allows you to highlight a section of type inside Photoshop, and then Photoshop will automatically attempt to find a close match of it for you to use in your projects.

This feature is very similar to the well known (and often ineffective) WhatTheFont! feature on MyFonts. The cool thing about this is you can do it all inside your Photoshop workflow and actually preview that font in your project in real time. Anything that saves a little bit of time inside Photoshop is a huge thumbs up from me!

This tutorial goes over how to add colorful noise overlays to photos (or designs and illustrations) inside Adobe Photoshop.

Also be sure to watch the final part that goes over how to create noise gradients. These have a really unique look and I actually figured out how to make them shortly before making the video.

This method of adding noise overlays to images is a great way to make photos match the color theme of your designs or to knock down complex photos to make them a little bit less busy if you want to do something like add text on top.

This video covers both how to create a hex grid by making a series of hexagons and organizing them, as well as how to utilize this hex grid to quickly and easily make custom isometric shapes.

This method is perfect for creating Monument Valley / M.C. Escher style images, and is also just a lot of fun to create with because of the interesting visual problems that it allows you to consider and work with. This Adobe Illustrator Tutorial covers an important aspect for mastering the basics of the program, and that's learning all of the options that the stroke window gives you.

Although at first glance the stroke window may appear to be fairly basic in what it allows you to do, once you expand the window and view all of the options you'll see there there is actually a ton of really cool stuff that you're able to do.

You can do much more than just change the size of the stoke, you can change the way the stroke behaves, what sort of caps and corners it has, give it dashed or dotted lines, as well as change the profile of the lines or add arrows.

This tutorial goes over how to create awesome 3D effects inside Adobe Illustrator by using the appearance window. The appearance window is a sometimes under used element of Adobe Illustrator, but knowing how to use and manipulate it can open up a whole new world of opportunities to apply to your type work, designs, and illustrations.

One of the best parts of applying custom effects this way is that everything is super easy to toggle on and off, and all effects that are applied are completely non-destructive and easy to turn off or delete at any time.

Things covered in this tutorial including adding a stroke and fill, creating 3d extrudes, applying a bulge effect across the entire type element using the effects panel, and then saving out the style you created as a graphic style.

Adobe Illustrator Pen Tool Tutorial for Logos and Typography

This tutorial covers how to use the pen tool inside Adobe Illustrator. This tutorial is specifically made to show you how to use the pen tool in the most efficient way possible in order to reduce the number of points you create, and increase the amount of control you have with fine tune adjustments of those points.

There are many different possible ways to use the pen tool inside Illustrator, but the method shown in this video is generally considered to be one of the most technically correct, and therefore the best to use when dealing with very exacting design work like logos and typography.

Some quick tips are to always hold shift when creating your points (except in specific circumstances pointed out in this video) to make sure that the arcs on your lines align themselves properly. Basically you always want to pull your curves in a pure vertical or horizontal manner. Also only put pen tool points on the beginning, middle, and end of a curve. Don't place points in a section that is continually curving because it will likely just end up complicating your paths. An example of this is the center point of the "S" shape as demonstrated in this tutorial.

Keyboard Shortcuts:
Pen Tool: P
Selection Tool (Black Arrow): V
Direct Selection Tool (White Arrow): A

How to Use Selective Color in Adobe Photoshop Tutorial

November 6, 2015

Subscribe: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=ovenrude

This tutorial goes over how to use the selective color tool inside Adobe Photoshop. Selective color is an amazing way to adjust colors in Photoshop while still maintaining a huge amount of control over what colors are effected by the changes.

Where changing the color of something via a method like hue / saturation will change every color in the image you're editing (assuming you haven't masked things out), selective color can target a specific color on the color spectrum and then you are presented with slider bars for all of the CMYK color options to really fine tune your image the way you want it to look.

Overall an awesome tool that I think is underused by designers as it is such a specialized tool, but it's definitely one worth knowing because it can be extremely powerful when trying to carefully tweak image and design colors.

How to Make a Seamlessly Repeating Geometric Pattern in Adobe Illustrator Tutorial

October 27, 2015

Sponsored by: http://www.webdesignernews.com/

This tutorial goes over how to make a seamlessly repeating geometric pattern inside Adobe Illustrator. The tutorial goes over everything from the basics of setting up your art board and creating the first shape, to how to quickly and accurately repeat the shapes to eventually create the final seamless repeat.

This tutorial uses triangles to achieve the repeat effect, but the same principles could be applied to other shapes like hexagons if you wanted to. At the end of the tutorial I go over some thoughts on how to color and pattern the repeat, as well as how to create a clipping mask to make sure everything works perfectly as intended.

Any questions? Don't hesitate to ask in the comments.

TIP FOR PHOTOSHOP:  If you bring your completed pattern into Photoshop and notice some hairline fracture white lines and want to get rid of them easily, just duplicate the layer that you pasted in until they're gone. Ctrl + J on a PC or Command + J on a Mac will duplicate the selected layer. Once the white lines are fully gone just click the first layer, hold shift, then click the last layer. After you do that right click on all of the selected layers and select merge layers. You should be good to go!

Some common shortcuts used:
V - Selection Tool (black arrow)
A - Direct Selection Tool (white arrow)
M - Rectangle Shape Tool
Hold Shift - Keep objects on same plane for accurate movement
Hold Alt (Option on Mac) when dragging: Duplicate that object
Shift + X - swap fill and stroke
Ctrl + D ( Command on Mac) to duplicate last movement or copy movement
i - eyedropper tool

This tutorial covers how to create seamless repeats inside Adobe Illustrator. I cover a couple different methods, but the primary one involves using the move command to ensure that all of your repeats match up in a pixel perfect manner.

Learning how to create seamlessly repeating patterns inside Adobe Illustrator is especially useful in applications like fabric / textile design as well as web design. They offer a huge amount of flexibility in scaling your designs to look good on almost any sort of small or large scale application that needs the design to cover the entire area.

This tutorial shows the pattern being created on a square document, but feel free to use whatever size and aspect ratio of document you want. The same principles apply.
